HANNAH RADCLIFFE

About the Artist

I am a Manx illustrator & picture framer living in the west end of Glasgow. My practise is playful, character driven and full of colour (& greyhounds). Alongside this, I have 3 years experience working on mural projects as an assistant painter & content creator for Sheffield based artist Jo Peel.

The Proposal

This design features a greyhound looking up longingly at the night sky. It is inspired by the name of the vintage clothing & antique store on Byres Road: ‘Starry Starry Night’. Dogs are well known for their ability to act as mirrors to our own human emotions. There is something about the stoic, anthropomorphic expressions of a greyhound that is irresistibly charming. It was shortly after travelling to the UK to study that my fascination with paintings on walls began. I had lived in rural communities for all my life up until that point but found myself inspired by the sense of curiosity and human connection that street art could create in the unassuming corners of an urban environment. I am influenced by the playful and mysterious character designs of street artists like KIDACNE, Pete McKee and Phlegm.
