About the Artist
I am an illustrator and artist who has previously painted community murals in Paris, as well as transforming a toilet block in Pollok Park, Glasgow. Last year I collaborated with artist Ellietype on a major mural art commission for Perth Art Gallery toilets; we also combine forces annually to create decor for Kelburn Garden Party. My work features on one of the Clutha Pub panels and I have recently done live painting for outdoor market events in Glasgow. Outside of mural painting and street art, I work on contrasting projects from ceramics, to poster design and subvertising, bringing my skills of storytelling and visual communication to speak to a diverse range of audiences. I like to draw on influences ranging from folk art and children's book illustration to political poster art and I always return to playful images of humans, animals and nature, imbueing them with a sense of joy, humour and whimsy.

About the Proposal:
The brief for this project was to make a piece referencing the cultural identity of Glasgow so I decided to celebrate Glasgow Mela, an annual festival of South Asian culture that happens in nearby Kelvingrove Park in June. It's an exuberant celebration of dance and music, and is Scotland's biggest free multi-cultural festival. If you turn and look further down the street you can actually see the real spires of Kelvingrove Art Gallery that I painted behind the dancer. While I was working on this a woman saw it and came and told me 'This is Delhi, my home city!' Indian miniatures and vintage matchbox design were beautiful sources of inspiration that informed the design, and the fish, the bell, the bird and the tree come from Glasgow's quirky coat of arms. Two sunny days in a row and countless blethers and encouragements from passersby of all walks of life made this a total joy to work on and cemented my love for Glasgow!
